Independent Research Fund Denmark

New web platform built on The Agency for Governmental IT Services' Fællesweb provides better overview and improves the user journey.

With over 500 grants and a total amount exceeding 2 billion DKK, the Independent Research Fund Denmark (IRFD) is a central pillar in Danish research funding and contributes to promoting the country’s most original ideas and research projects.

We have launched the new website, which, as the fund’s new flagship in external communication, makes it easier for both researchers and other stakeholders to find relevant information.

2,000,000,000 DKK on one platform

IRFD receives up to 4,000 applications annually and awards research grants to approximately 580 research projects covering every imaginable scientific field.

We have developed a new web platform that provides a more user-friendly overview of the foundation’s funding opportunities, bringing together all relevant information, guidelines, and documents in one place. This makes it easier for researchers to apply for funding and follow the projects supported by the foundation.

Additionally, the platform provides access to even more data and information about the many projects the foundation has supported over time, thereby contributing to a greater understanding of individual research projects.

Effective adaptation to Fællesweb

Kruso build the foundation for the new solution in close collaboration with IRFD and facilitated the initial design work. As the solution is built on the The Agency for Governmental IT Services' Fællesweb, IRFD has quickly been able to take over many tasks internally and achieve greater ownership over both pages and content.

The new website has received a significant boost. A visual identity that meets WCAG requirements, a clear page structure with better hierarchy and an optimized user journey - as well as strengthened content and navigation.

Over 500 pages were efficiently migrated to the new platform via a semi-automatic system. To ensure a smooth transition, Kruso facilitated ongoing training sessions both before and after the launch, so that IRFD became comfortable with the new system and could continuously quality-assure the content.

Editorial overview with Single Source of Truth

The core component of the platform is the API integration for e-grant. Through a Single Source of Truth, all data about the research projects is collected in one place and transferred to the platform, which makes the editorial work easier for IRFD.

The new e-grant API is a two-way API that only returns the data that the user requests via filtering or search - for example, by period (year), instruments, main scientific areas or through a generic free text search.
